What This Example Shows

Resin estimates usually start from milliliters reported by the slicer, not grams. This example converts the bottle price per liter into a per-milliliter rate, then adds a manual waste allowance for supports, vat residue, failed exposure tests, or drips.

The result is still only the resin material line. Washing alcohol, gloves, post-curing time, failed batches, support removal, machine time, and labor should be handled as separate shop assumptions before quoting real work.

Inputs

Resin price$36/L
Resin volume80 ml
Supports and waste15%

Outputs

Base resin cost$2.88
Cost including waste$3.31

Formula Explanation

Base resin cost = 36 / 1000 × 80. Cost including waste = 2.88 × 1.15.

Use This Example When

  • A slicer gives you resin volume in milliliters and you know your bottle price.
  • You need a quick material-only comparison for a miniature, dental model, mold, or prototype.
  • You want to decide whether resin waste should be priced into a customer estimate.

Before You Use the Number

  • Do not mix resin milliliters with filament grams in the same formula.
  • Raise the waste percentage for support-heavy jobs, failed exposure tests, or messy vat cleanup.

Assumptions

  • Volume comes from your slicer estimate.
  • Post-processing consumables are not included.

FAQ

Does this example use live prices?

No. The example uses fixed sample inputs. Replace them with your own rates.

Can I run the calculator with my own values?

Yes. Open the Resin Print Cost Calculator and enter your own assumptions.
